Hometown Bake Shop opens in Centerport
Danna Abrams came up with name “Hometown Bake Shop” years before she actually owned a bakery. But as of this week, the name adorns the awning and window of her new, brick-and-mortar establishment in Centerport.
Abrams first came to the notice of Long Island waistlines in 2013 when she founded the bakery at Kerber’s Farm in Huntington and won raves for her pies, cookies, biscuits, scones and muffins. Specialties such as decadent s’mores pies, mac-and-cheese tarts and dinner-sized bacon-jalapeno biscuits displayed her talent for going over the top without missing the mark.
In 2014, she set out on her own, making desserts for Black & Blue Seafood Chophouse and selling her confections at Southdown Coffee (both in Huntington). In 2015, she staked tents at weekly farmers markets in Huntington, Roslyn and Northport. Customers clamored for more products and more hours, and now they’ve gotten their wish.
Hometown Bake Shop is in the small shopping center at the intersection of Little Neck and Fort Salonga roads. The space, which used to be Rhapsody Cakes, has been completely renovated. Right now the emphasis is on sweets: cookies ($2), biscuits, muffins, scones, brownies and babka ($3) and pies ($20). Abrams also makes a number of savory pies and tarts (such as latke-topped brisket, chili in a cornbread crust, and in the coming weeks she’ll be adding breakfast, lunch and brunch to the menu. Coffee will be supplied by Southdown. Take out or sit down at one of the shop’s four booths.
Hometown Bake Shop is at 2 Little Neck Rd., Centerport, 631-754-7437, hometownbakeshop.com.
