Huntington: Open, Swallow

Swallow has spread its wings in the Huntington space that once housed Kozy Kettle on New York Avenue.
The restaurant is co-owned by Julie and James Tchinnis (he was chef at Bistro 56 in Huntington and Bistro 44 in Northport). It's a small place (six tables and eight seats at the bar) specializing in small plates. While the original plan was to offer Southern and Cajun fare, Tchinnis decided to go, instead, with a New American roster of larger-than-tapas/smaller-than-entree dishes, none costing more than $12.
A glance at the menu reveals such items as tuna crudo with shaved asparagus as well as house-made black pepper gnocchi with toasted almond arugula pesto and poached egg, and also a rock shrimp saute with cockle clams, grape tomatoes, bacon and butter. “Two people would get four items,” said Tchinnis. Desserts, at $6, change weekly. This week, the choices are chocolate cake with peanut caramel and freshly whipped cream, hazelnut creme brulee with chocolate covered cocoa puffs and grilled Granny Smith apples with Stilton cheese and local honey drizzle.
For now, the same menu prevails at lunch and dinner.
The place, which is closed Monday, is currently awaiting its beer and wine license.
Swallow is at 366 New York Ave., Huntington, 631-547-5388
