Ice cream at Bellerose car wash

Driving down Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose last week, I had a sudden and intense need for a chocolate malted and decided to give Google Maps the chance to help. I keyed in “ice cream” and learned that less than a mile away was a shop selling Hershey’s (a mass-market brand whose chocolate compares very favorably with most of the “homemade” chocolates at local parlors).

I drove by the given address once, twice, no ice cream parlor; just an impressive fieldstone-covered car wash. Wait a minute: It’s Ultra Sonic Hand Car Wash Ice Cream Parlor! Yes, attached to the car wash was a Tudor-style annex that prominently displayed the Hershey’s sign.

I thoroughly enjoyed my malted, though the young woman behind the counter made it with soft-serve instead of hard ice cream. Next time, I may ask if she would break protocol and use hard. I also may treat my car to a hand wash. It has needs too.
