Javier’s Café is turning out pancakes, omelets, sandwiches and salads in the Smithtown digs that last hosted Luso (which moved to larger quarters nearby). Chef-owner Edgar “Javier” Viera cooked for 16 years at Maureen’ & Daughters' Kitchen, also in Smithtown. His new place, like Maureen’s, serves only breakfast and lunch.

On the menu: banana blueberry pancakes ($8.25), stuffed peach pecan French toast ($7.50), a Polish sausage, potato, scallion and smoked mozzarella omelet ($9.25), a turkey, tomato, bacon, swiss and rémoulade sandwich on grilled rye  ($10.25), a cheeseburger with fries ($10.25) and a chef salad ($13.75).

The place offers patio dining out back.

Javier’s Café is at 101 E. Main St., Smithtown, 631-406-7712.
