Jewish-style deli Pastrami Express opens in Seaford

There’s nothing quite like homemade corned beef or pastrami. And now there’s a new destination in Seaford where you can get it.

Offerings at Pastrami Express go beyond the name at this Jewish-style deli (that’s not certified kosher). With 24 seats, the place is clean and sparse, with tchotchkes on shelves and walls that add grandma-style warmth.

As Abe Ahmed tends to meats, including roast turkey, stuffed derma or kishka, chopped liver and thin-sliced beef tongue, Annie Ahmed bakes knishes every morning — spinach, onion sweet potato and meat varieties — along with potato pancakes and stuffed cabbage. Pierogies served with fried onions and sour cream hold a place on the menu, though they’re not made in-house.

Prices range from $4.50 for matzo ball soup to $7.50 for appetizers, $11 to $15 for entrees and $8.95 to $15 for sandwiches.

Abe Ahmed, originally from Egypt, and Annie Ahmed from Romania, moved to Long Island eight years ago. As her husband worked in Jewish-style delis and a restaurant in Rego Park, the two looked for a spot to open their own place. They found the Seaford location and debuted it earlier this year.

Pastrami Express is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and until 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It will be closed during Passover.
