In the year when John Glenn circled the Earth, “Lawrence of Arabia” unspooled on screens, and Johnny Carson started on “The Tonight Show,” Kwong Ming debuted in Wantagh.

The Cantonese restaurant celebrates its 50th anniversary Wednesday with an invitation-only  free buffet, with live music and dancing.

Kwong Ming still has a family-style “Column A” and “Column B” menu, offers a pu pu platter “accompanied by a flaming grill,” and specializes in dishes such as chicken chow mein and lobster Cantonese. There's also a tasting menu for two, and more contemporary fare.

Owner Barry Lee, son of original business partner Howard Lee, has run the restaurant since 2000. He started there as a waiter and delivery boy.
