La Viola, a local landmark in Cedarhurst for more than three decades, has closed.

The Italian restaurant, at 499 Chestnut St., began as a Continental spot in 1977, serving French dishes, too. It  was among the destination tables in the Five Towns. La Viola  became a family-style establishment 1990.

The restaurant was known for specialties such as cannelloni stuffed with veal, boneless stuffed chicken, chicken scarpariello and stuffed artichokes. La Viola briefly had a branch at 41 Jackson Ave. in Syosset. That restaurant closed years ago.

La Viola was founded by Lino and Elsa Viola. Mrs. Viola died in January.

Stuffed artichoke was a seasonal specialty at La Viola.
