Little Creek Oyster Farm adds clams to its roster
Little Creek Oyster Farm & Market has added another mollusk to the menu. When it opened last year, Greenport's waterside U-shuck shack devoted itself to the art of shucking oysters, providing customers with tools, protective gear and lessons.
Now you can learn to shuck local clams as well.
I got a lesson recently from Little Creek's co-owner Ian Wile and am hereby issuing a blanket apology to any and all raw bar employees to whom I may not have paid proper respect. Clams, I found, require more time, skill and muscle to shuck than do oysters. I got my half-dozen open, but mangled most of them in the process. Perhaps I should just leave this to the professionals.
Little Creek Oyster Farm & Market is on the waterfront between Mitchell Park and Claudio's at 125 Main St., Greenport, 631-477-6992. Right now it's open Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m., and Friday to Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. Hours will expand later in the season.
