Long Island restaurants: New reviews
In this week’s Newsday, Peter M. Gianotti reviews True American Kitchen, the Mineola successor to Lola Trattoria. From Chicago hot dogs and Southern fried chicken to New York strip steak and pan-roasted Long Island duck breast, it’s “a lively new restaurant with real personality and enough homey choices to feed the most contrarian group.”
Joan Reminick visits Sushi Republic in New Hyde Park (where Ara and, before that, Imperial Seoul were), and is relieved to find an Asian fusion restaurant without “neon lights, throbbing techno music and raw fish plated with lights that change color.” Instead, she finds a serene design, obliging servers and food that “more than satisfies.”
And be sure to check out Gianotti and Reminick’s picks for Long Island’s 10 best spaghetti and meatballs.
