Across Long Island, chicken mania picks up steam as restaurants trot out weekday bird specials. Americans’ per capita consumption of chicken is at an all-time high, reports the National Chicken Council, with projected yearly consumption at 91 pounds per person for 2016, compared to 55 pounds of beef per year. This is quite a jump compared to the 1960s, when the average person consumed 63 pounds of beef per year and 28 pounds of chicken.

The newest chicken dinner starts next week with Marc Bynum’s “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” on Wednesdays for pickup at Soup-or-Hero Kitchen in Farmingdale. The deal serves four and includes a roast chicken, three sides — such as chef’s choice of black-eyed peas, Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese or baked beans — chicken gravy and biscuits for $39.95. Bynum emphasizes calling ahead because supplies are limited.

Off the Block Kitchen & Meats in Sayville has introduced an $18 Thursday fried-chicken night, which includes three pieces of fried chicken served with mac and cheese and Mexican street corn from 5 to 10 p.m. for dine in or take out.

Beyond prime weekend nights, Storyville American Table continues its all-you-can-eat fried chicken from 4 to 9 p.m. Sundays. Feast on drumsticks, thighs or chicken breast for two, served with slaw and mashed potatoes, for $21.95.
