LongHorn Steakhouse opens in Farmingdale

The first Long Island branch of LongHorn Steakhouse, a national chain, has opened near Republic Airport in Farmingdale.

LongHorn, moderately priced compared with most of the major steakhouses in Nassau and Suffolk, is part of Darden Restaurants, which also runs The Capital Grille, a high-end steak chain that has a branch in Garden City. Darden also operates Seasons 52, a New American eatery that includes a Garden City location; and Olive Garden restaurants. There are more than 500 LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants spread over 41 states.

This one boasts about 30 booths, plenty of wood, paneling, a bar, western images, similar-themed lighting, and evocative artwork to underscore the beefy approach. There's plenty of stonework outside the low-slung building.

The steaks served take in flat iron, filet mignon, T-bone, New York strip, sirloin and rib-eye. They're priced from $11.99 to $29.99. The biggest steak is the 22-ounce namesake porterhouse.

Hamburgers and sandwiches are in the $11.29 to $15.99 range. Several lunch dishes are less than $10, among them a shaved prime rib sandwich, a crisp buttermilk-fried chicken sandwich, and a one-third pound burger; midday, burgers are $10.99 to $15.49 and steaks $11.99 to $28.49.

LongHorn's selections go beyond beef with choices such as grilled chicken, Parmesan-crusted chicken, grilled shrimp, baby back ribs, pork chops, and salmon, which come in at $11.99 to $16.49. Appetizers and shareable plates include fried pickles, chili-cheese fries, white Cheddar and bacon dip, Buffalo-style wings, and "wild west" shrimp, with prices from $4.99 to $11.79. A fair slice of the menu is available for  takeout.

LongHorn Steakhouse is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday to Thursday; and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It's situated on the west side of Broadhollow Road, across from Courtyard by Marriott.
