Mattituck is getting a taste of Manhattan with the hamlet’s newest coffee and breakfast spot, Macchiato Espresso Bar.

The shop opened on Main Road in the former Meat’s Meat BBQ and North Fork Donut Company, next door to a new yoga studio. Owners Tal and Sue Inbar started roasting coffee in New York City in 2006. When COVID forced the couple to close two of their four locations in 2020, they moved out to the North Fork full time with their family. It took time to find the right spot for an East End outpost — they signed the lease in November.

Opening on Long Island "was like a dream we’d probably never do unless we were forced out," Tal Inbar said.

Espresso ($4.25 for a double), macchiato ($4.75 for a double), cappuccino and lattes ($6.75 for a large) kick-start your morning. Other beverages include hot chocolate ($6.75 for a large) and tea ($4 for a large).

The menu also includes breakfast dishes such as avocado toast ($9.50.) and bagels ($8 with bacon, egg and cheese.) For lunch, try sandwiches like the caprese ($13.50) made with mozzarella, balsamic dipped tomato, basil and olive tapenade.

"We’re not inventing wheel by any means, but I think since we opened doors in the city, I think the main focus was on high-end ingredients," Tal Inbar said. "Use real butter for the cookies, use the Belgian chocolate for the pastries ... that’s our main focus, always has been."

They plan to expand the menu to include acai bowls and smoothies soon, Sue Inbar said.

Off-menu, guests can find Macchiato-branded merchandise from T-shirts and hoodies to tumblers, beanies and tote bags.

Therre's seating for about nine people. And unlike the previous Manhattan locations, Macchiato is open every day.

"It’s necessary," Tal said. "Coffee is so much of a routine, so you do it often."
