With a decidedly lighthearted name, Mango Tango Asian Fusion has opened in what used to be Vege Favor in Islip.

The restaurant from Anna Zhang and her husband, Alan Zheng, opened in late September with an Asian fusion menu: tom yum gung and wonton soups; salads ($3 to $10); appetizers such as potstickers, sesame noodles or Sichuan dumplings ($6 to $12). The sushi options can be daring, including the spicy tuna pizza ($13) along with sushi and sashimi a la carte ($2 to $8), sushi rolls and handrolls ($3.50 to $15). Meats, seafoods and chicken can be dressed in a variety of Malaysian, Thai and Chinese sauces, from black bean to ginger to mango ($12 to $17). Zhang runs the front of the house and Zheng is the chef.

Zhang and Zheng, who have been working in Asian fusion restaurants for over a decade, saw that Islip had a space available (Vege Favor closed more than a year ago) and little competition. Zhang said the 80-seat restaurant took almost a year to build out, during which time she dissolved her partnership stake in Asian Moon in Massapequa Park, still open.

“We thought it would be a great neighborhood to open our restaurant,” said Zhang.

Mango Tango is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, until 11 on Friday, from 12:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
