Former Merrick Ave. Diner

Former Merrick Ave. Diner Credit: Handout

The former MaryBill Diner just reopened with a new name under a new owner. Jimmy Demos is now presiding over the Merrick Ave. Diner, which he is gradually renovating.

“I’m keeping the old 1947 look,” said Demos, who intends to respect the vintage diner “like an old Chevy.” Demos, who owned the former Delphi Diner in West Islip, said he serves only breakfast and lunch right now.

Included in his repertoire: banana walnut pancakes, Philly cheesesteak, meat loaf and a “juicy Lucy,”  described as “two hamburger patties squished together stuffed with cheese.”

You wouldn't want to schedule a cholesterol test after one of those.

The Merrick Ave. Diner is at 14 Merrick Ave., Merrick, 516-378-9715
