Salsa Mexicana is the latest Rockville Centre venture from chef-restaurateur Art Gustafson, who also owns Chadwicks American Chophouse & Bar and is a partner at Tony Colombos. The executive chef at Salsa Mexicana is Axell Urrutia, who headed the kitchen at Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill in Island Park and, before that, Cannon’s Blackthorn in Rockville Centre.

Urrutia said that his repertoire features “authentic Mexican flavors and modern platings” characterized by an innovation such as pumpkin seed-crusted scallop tacos. A glance at the menu (with most dishes under $20) reveals Mexican street corn (at $8, the least expensive option), jicama salad, duck al pastor tacos on handmade corn tortillas, shrimp ceviche, sangria-braised short rib enchiladas, adobo-rubbed scallop fajitas, and, at $26 (the costliest dish) tampiquena, or lime-seared beef tenderloin.

Salsa Mexicana is at 13. N. Village Ave., Rockville Centre, 516-544-2526.
