Jamaican restaurant Mobay Breeze opens in Huntington

Downtown Huntington, which boasts a broad range of cuisines, has added a taste of Jamaica with Mobay Breeze, the village's newest restaurant.

The small restaurant has seven tables and also prepares plenty of takeout at a Gerard Street address off the back parking lot to Dunkin' Donuts.

Restaurant manager Oni Medows advised that the eatery doesn't have a liquor license yet.

Owner-chef Roy Delroy Watson's fare takes in familiar Jamaican specialties such as jerk chicken, curry goat, fried plantains, and ackee and saltfish, the national dish of salted cod and ackee.

His menu also includes cod fritters, barbecued or jerked chicken wings, oxtail and oxtail pizza, meat or vegetable patties, macaroni and cheese, porridge; lobster, shrimp, and salmon dinners, as well as goat's head soup, for a distinctive flavor.

Dinners are almost all less than $20; lunch specials, $7.50. Mobay Breeze also currently has a coupon-special promotion for 50 percent off any two side orders, such as rice and pea and macaroni and cheese.

Mobay Breeze is open Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Breakfast is served every day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; lunch specials, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday. Reservations are accepted, as are major credit cards.
