Moo Burger opens in Syosset
Island Park residents know that a cow statue atop a building painted in a telltale black-and-white pattern signals one thing: Moo Burger. Now, Syosset eaters can join in on the fun with the opening of the burger restaurant’s second spot.
Hamburgers are approachable, which is part of the reason why Shane and Karen Kavanagh took over Moo Burger in Island Park in 2021. The former public relations professionals, who previously owned the cow-themed Farm Store next door, are hitting closer to home with their expansion to Syosset; they live in Oyster Bay.
"We drive down Berry Hill [Road] all the time to get the [Syosset] train station," Karen Kavanagh said. "When we saw the vacant space, it felt right."
The menu is packed with comfort classics. Moo burgers (from $5.99) start at four ounces and are served on potato rolls. The upgraded Grand Moo burgers (from $7.99) are six ounces of a short rib, chuck, and brisket blend on brioche buns and offer more topping options like fried eggs, jalapeños, Cheddar cheese and mushrooms. The most loaded version is the Aloha burger ($13.49), crowned with grilled pineapple, bacon, Swiss, teriyaki, raw onion, lettuce and tomato.
Moo Burger also offers turkey burgers, Sabrett beef hot dogs ($5.49), Beyond burgers with vegan cheese ($9.49), four chicken sandwiches ranging from grilled to fried to spicy, BLTs and grilled cheese. Sides include all types of fries (Cajun, cheese, loaded) as well as nibbles like mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese bites and chili (from $6.99). Offset all the salty, fried goodness with — what else?— a frothy milkshake ($7.49).
The Syosset menu mimics Island Park, as does the décor of the cozy space. "We had to have our cow print with the heart logo in Syosset too," Kavanagh said. We get the cow print, but why the heart logo?
Said Kavanagh, "Because we’re the burger place with heart."
