Copperhill, the much-anticipated New American restaurant, has just opened in Williston Park.
It's in the 125-year old Victorian landmark that housed La Marmite, a classic continental spot, for more than 40 years.
The renovation inside is more like a transformation, bringing in farmhouse and city styles for a sleek, modern look that also incorporates rustic touches.
Chef-owner Greg Kearns had updated the cuisine at La Marmite in 2013. His approach with Copperhill emphasizes local ingredients and seasonal menus.
Appetizers include marinated fluke with spicy-citrusy yuzu koshu, radish and coconut; duck liver mousse with pickled vegetables; fresh bratwurst; short-rib poutine; burrata cheese; and roasted marrow bones with onion jam.
Main dishes take in golden tilefish with cauliflower and hen of the woods mushrooms; black sea bass with sweet fingerling potatoes, fig, and speck; braised veal cheeks with Anson Mills grits; bistro-style bavette steak; and a house burger with Velveeta.
The price range is $5 to $13 for starters; $18 to $28 for main courses.
Copperhill is open for lunch Monday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and for dinner seven days, 5 to 10 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
