New and Turkish in Mount Sinai

Kebabs at the new Mavi Grill & Deli in Mount Sinai
Mavi Grill & Deli brings the fare of Turkey and the Mediterranean to Mount Sinai. The table-service restaurant is owned by a married couple — native Long Islander Lauren Iaria-Kola and Turkish-born Tuncay (T.J.) Kola; the two originally met in California.
On the menu: Mavi delight for two, with hummus, falafel, babaghanoush, grape leaves, Feta cheese, Kalamata olives and pita ($9.95); spinach pie ($5.95); red lentil and carrot soup ($3.25 cup, $4.25 bowl); chicken shish kebab ($12.95); a pita sandwich of house-made doner kebab (gyro), made with beef, lamb and veal ($7.95); an entree of Adana kebab, made with ground spiced lamb ($12.95). There’s also grilled mahi mahi ($14.95) and linguine with shrimp or salmon in a creamy sauce with dill and capers ($14.95). For dessert, house-made baklava ($3.95) from pastry chef Sedar Unalgan.
Mavi is at 749 Mt. Sinai-Coram Rd., Mount Sinai, 631-509-4866.
