The long-expected successor to The Seafood Barge has pulled into port.

A Lure's menu is almost exclusively seafood. It's the work of chef-on-the-go Tom Schaudel and restaurateur Adam Lovett. They also run A Mano Osteria and Wine Bar, the Italian eatery in Mattituck.

This big catch is subtitled "Chowder House & Oyster-ia." The waterside spot sends out corn and clam chowders, gumbo, crab cakes, fish tacos, steamed and, naturally, fresh local oysters. Salads, seviche, pasta with seafood, a series of catches of the day and "if you must" steaks are offered, too.

Schaudel adds a policy statement about lobsters. "I believe it to be somewhat sacrilegious, while gazing out at the Peconic Bay, to eat a whole lobster any way other than steamed with lemon and butter. Therefore, being a purist, and a bit hard-headed, please don't ask me for broiled, stuffed or grilled. I simply will not defile the magnificent creature with unnecessary flame, flavors or focaccia."

There is, however, a lobster "knuckle sandwich" roll.

"House favorites" include chile-dusted yellowfin tuna with seaweed-soba noodle salad, potato-crusted cod with braised greens and beluga lentils, soft-shell crabs with local corn and fava succotash, and steamed halibut with chorizo and tomato-saffron broth.

The chef de cuisine at A Lure is Jeff Uguil, who's a partner, too, and a veteran of A Mano.

A Lure Chowder House & Oyster-ia, 62300 Main Rd. (Route 25), at the Port of Egypt Marina, Southold; 631-876-5300.
