Open in East Meadow: Mi Cabaña Restaurant
Making its debut in the East Meadow space that last hosted Sacramone’s Italian Restaurant is Mi Cabaña Restaurant, offering Colombian, Peruvian and “Latin fusion” cuisine — plus, for good measure, a few Italian dishes. I stopped by briefly and picked up a menu, which made for intriguing reading.
To begin with, the place offers breakfast daily from 8:30 a.m., with such items as Peruvian-style tamales ($14.99) and carne asada y arepa con queso, or steak and corn cakes with cheese ($9.99).
For later in the day, there’s grilled marinated whole chicken ($9.99) and a host of Chinese-Peruvian dishes, among them sopa de pato con wantan, or duck soup with wontons ($8.99), tallerin chifa de chancho asado, or grilled pork with Chinese vegetables and noodles ($12.99), chaufa de mariscos, or fried rice with seafood ($14.99) and aeropuerto, or fried rice and noodles with chicken ($12.99). Traditional Peruvian specialties include anticuchos, or grilled beef hearts ($7.99) and fish ceviche ($14.99).
From the Colombian menu, there’s lengua alla criolla, or tongue in Creole sauce ($13.50), lomo de cerdo a la parilla, or grilled pork loin ($12.99) and pargo frito, or fried whole red snapper ($19.99).
Those at a loss can always get chicken parmigiana ($14.99).
Mi Cabaña Restaurant is at 2366 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow, 516-513-1919.
