Open in Huntington: Char Grille
Char Grille has moved into the space at the corner of Clinton Avenue and Gerard Street that most recently housed BlonDee’s Bistro. The restaurant is owned by the same group that operates Doppio Artisan Bistro (located next door) and Doppio East in Sag Harbor.
Executive chef Bryan Dedcovich was formerly executive sous chef at Insignia Prime Steak and Sushi in Smithtown, but his menu at Char is a more casual mix of New American small plates and exuberant gastropub mash-ups. Appetizers include bbq-smoked octopus with charred summer vegetables, fingerling puree and red pepper Greek yogurt ($16), crispy pork belly with spicy Korean bbq, lobster and stir-fried vegetables ($18), mac and cheese with lobster and pork belly ($16), tuna tartar with crispy salmon skin, peppers avocado, jalapeño and charred vegetables ($17).
A burger menu ($12 to $14) offers a diners’ choice of meats (beef, bison, chicken breast), cheeses, toppings, sauces and accompaniments. Entrees include corn ravioli with seasonal vegetables, butter cream and lobster foam ($24), skirt steak with chickpeas, shrimp and summer corn salad and chimichurri sauce $28) and striped bass with snap peas, roasted mushrooms, pearl onions and sweet pea puree ($28).
Char Grille is open for dinner seven nights a week and plans to launch lunch soon. 26 Clinton Ave., Huntington, 631-923-3400.
