Now serving Portuguese fare in Island Park is Flamingo Tapas Bar & Grill Cafe. The new restaurant is owned by married couple Maria and Antonio Almeida, who opened Antonio’s in Oceanside before selling it some seven years ago.

According to co-owner Maria Almeida, Flamingo's current digs formerly housed a topless bar. “The pole is gone now,” she quipped.

On the Portuguese tapas roster are such items as flamed Portuguese sausage ($13.95), clams in green sauce ($13.95) and octopus salad ($14.95). Entrees include shrimp in red, green or garlic sauce with rice ($24.95), broiled cod Portuguese style ($24.95), whole BBQ Portuguese chicken for two ($23.95) and grilled skirt steak ($26.95).

Flamingo Tapas Bar & Grill Cafe is at 3902 Long Beach Rd., Island Park, 516-544-2020.
