Counter at the new Spaghettini PIzza Trattoria in Mineola in August 2014

Old-fashioned Italian cooking is at the heart of the new Spaghettini Pizza Trattoria, which replaces the departed Michelangelo’s Pizzeria & Restaurant on Mineola Boulevard.

The place is owned by the Vetrano family. You may be familiar with Joe Vetrano, who owns Skinny Pizza in Roslyn Heights and Roosevelt Field. “It’s my brother Pasquale Vetrano who is in charge,” said Vetrano, adding that his parents are also involved with the place, whose menu, he says, is “a throwback to Mom’s cooking.”

The chef is Franco Brunetti, who hails from Bari and cooked at the former Triangolo in Manhattan, where he was also an owner. On the menu: Thin-crust Margherita pizzette ($10), jumbo rice ball with marinara sauce ($6), cold antipasto salad ($10), pasta Bolognese ($14), chicken scarpariello ($19) and linguine with clam sauce ($16)

Spaghettini Pizza Trattoria is at 106 Mineola Blvd., Mineola, 516-750-8044, spaghettinipizza.com
