Orto opens in Miller Place
St. James’ Kitchen A Bistro and Kitchen A Trattoria have a new sibling up the road: Orto in Miller Place. Eric Lomando’s newest venture opened Saturday night in the lovely old building that used to house Brian Scott’s.
The menu changes daily, but Lomando sent us a copy of Saturday night's. Here are some highlights:
Antipasti ($9-$13): fennel-chestnut soup; farro salad with roasted mushrooms, charred onion and feta; squash caponata with made-to-order ricotta. Pasta ($12/half; $20/full portion): spaghetti with clams and grilled green onions, cavatelli with sweet shrimp and caviar, garganelli with pork-shoulder ragu. Mains ($23): braised veal saltimbocca, roast chicken with sweet-potato diavola; grilled branzino with roasted fennel, blood orange and olives. Every night there is also a five-course tasting menu for $60.
Right now Lomando is running the kitchen at Orto while Steve Gallagher mans the stove at Kitchen A Trattoria, Bill Rhame at Kitchen A Bistro.
Orto serves dinner from Tuesday through Sunday; reservations are required for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is a full bar, beer and wine list but no corkage fees and no credit cards.
