Primi Italian Steakhouse opens in West Islip
Primi Italian Steakhouse is now open at 999 Montauk Hwy. in West Islip.
Two of Long Island’s most popular cuisines come together at the new Primi Italian Steakhouse, which has opened in West Islip.
The handsome restaurant moves into the former home of Nonnina, which initially earned a three-star rating in Newsday. Nonnina closed last year.
Primi is owned by Frank Bono, formerly of Doppio Artisan Bistro in Huntington, with local businessman Michael Weber. Tom Pescuma, also veteran of Doppio, which has a seasonal branch in Sag Harbor, is a consultant at Primi.
The chef is Franco Pollini, who’d cooked at Prime in Huntington, among other restaurants, and was a corporate chef for the New York Yankees.
Expect appetizers such as grilled octopus, eggplant parmigiana, meatballs with polenta, and pizza Margherita. Pastas include fettuccine Bolognese, orecchiette with sausage and broccoli di rape, and cacio e pepe made with bucatini. Openers are in the $12 to $17 range.
The Italianate main dishes take in chicken scarpariello and veal Milanese; the steakhouse staples, filet mignon, bone-in rib-eye, New York strip steak, and rack of lamb. Main courses: generally $30 to $44. The rib-eye steak is $75.
Primi is on the north side of Montauk Highway, just east of the Robert Moses Causeway.
