Rhumb Line reborn in Greenport; Blue Island departs
Terry Hasapoglou, chef-owner of the former Terry G’s Steak House in Farmingdale, has brought back from the great beyond a former Greenport institution: The Rhumb Line. The place reopened in its former home, last occupied by Blue Islands, which had closed. The modern day Rhumb Line has been redecorated in a woodsy motif, its bar area equipped with several 45-inch TV screens. A variety of craft beers is on tap and in bottles.
Hasapoglou defined his menu as “upscale pub.” The top appetizer, he said, is a crispy tuna roll ($10) made with sushi grade tuna and arugula wrapped in a spring roll skin, coated with sesame seeds and flash-fried so the tuna stays super-rare. Other choices include Thai calamari ($10), a burger with hand-cut fries ($10), a marinated skirt steak ($21), and a corned beef sandwich on house-made onion rye ($12).
The restaurant is currently featuring a lobster bake special which, at $15.95, includes a 1¼ pound lobster with clams, mussels, corn and potatoes.
Hasapoglou said he is waiting for the town to issue permits for a fenced-in outdoor tiki bar he hopes to soon open.
Rhumb Line is at 34 Front St., Greenport, 631-477-6922.
