The popular Melville lunch spot, Roast Sandwich House, has spawned a Hicksville sibling. The new eatery is in the Aero Plaza shopping center anchored by Planet Fitness.

The original Roast, owned by Joe Cordaro and Paul Doyle, opened in December 2010 and distinguished itself for its imaginative sandwiches, made with house-roasted meats and scratch-made garnishes. Newsday’s Joan Reminick awarded it three stars.

Hicksville’s Roast has a similar clean design, but the soaring ceiling makes it look much bigger. In fact, there’s a bit more room in both kitchen and dining room — which seats about two dozen — but the biggest difference between the two locations is that the new one offers plenty of parking.

The menus in Hicksville and Melville are identical, though each kitchen will do all its cooking. Once the new kitchen, helmed by Beau Damato, finds its groove, it will offer its own specials. We were among the first customers on Monday and can report that both the California Roast Beef BLT with avocado, grilled onions and garlic aioli and the Braised Brisket Grilled Cheese in Hicksville attain the high standard set by the mother ship in Melville.

Roast Sandwich House, open Monday to Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., is at 1040 S. Broadway, Hicksville, 516-261-9376. Original location: 827 Walt Whitman Rd., Melville, 631-629-4869, roastsandwichhouse.com.
