The Roslyn Village farmers market, which had been scheduled to launch for the season on Saturday, July 11, has been canceled. (The farmers market in Roslyn's Christopher Morley Park is still on every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Organizer Erik Longabardi posted on the market's website, "Unfortunately, the site at which the farmers market exists has been designated for construction of a new retaining wall and thus our second season has been canceled. The north and east facing walls on our site were collapsing and the village started within the past week to remedy the situation. ... We are hoping to bring this back in the summer of 2016."

Even without the market, Longabardi remains committed to bringing great local food to Nassau's Gold Coast. In April he teamed up with Great South Bay's Lucky 13 Oysters and Village Wine Merchant of Sea Cliff for an evening of oysters and wine. Now he and the wine shop are highlighting the breads of Kamel Saci. Saci, who bakes for Manhattan restaurants Il Buco and Il Buco Alimentari, is one of the New York area's most accomplished bread bakers. On Thursday, July 16, Village Wine Merchant will be serving his bread paired with cheeses and wines. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free. The Village Wine Merchant is at 252 Sea Cliff Ave., Sea Cliff, 516-200-9370, villagewinemerchant.com.

All of Longabardi's upcoming events will be posted at roslynvillagefarmersmarket.com, and you can also follow him on Instagram @roslynvillagefarmersmarket.
