Sabrosa Mexican Grill opens new location in Commack
Health-conscious, fast-casual Mexican food chain Sabrosa Mexican Grill made its farthest stab west so far when a fourth location opened recently in Commack.
The menu at the 36-seat eatery on Commack Road, a shade north of the Long Island Expressway, mirrors that of the Water Mill, Riverhead and Lake Ronkonkoma locations: Build-your-own tacos, burritos, burrito bowls and salads that draw on organic beans, hormone-free dairy products and naturally raised meats.
Owner Jay Andreassi opened the first Sabrosa Mexican Grill in Water Mill in 2014, dually inspired by the Chipotle Mexican Grill model as well as his own foray into vegan and healthy Mexican food. “I was amazed at how diet changed everything,” said Andreassi, an East End real-estate developer who was confronting dogged health issues at the time.
Sabrosa’s menu was developed in collaboration with Cynthia Sass, an author and consulting nutritionist for the New York Yankees. The chain’s S.A.S.S. drinks, fruit- and herb- infused waters, are named after her.
As at its other locations, Sabrosa donates a portion of its daily proceeds to local charities.
A fifth location in Hauppauge is due to open this summer.
