Long Island has lost one of its iconic old diners with the closing of the Sayville Modern Diner on downtown Main Street. While the business has been at the same site since the 1930s, the original railroad-car diner was replaced by larger and more "modern" versions over the years.
The place has been a local staple for scrambled eggs with hash browns, burgers and spinach pie. More noteworthy than its food, though, was its nostalgic look.
A sign in the window heralds the coming of Koi Sushi. What this will mean for the local architecture remains to be seen.
