Long Island's second branch of the wildly popular Shake Shack chain is set to get shaking in New Hyde Park on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. This launch comes three years after the debut of the Island's first branch, in Garden City's Westbury Plaza.

Situated in the Lake Success Shopping Center, the new spot occupies the space where, for years, Deli King served up hot pastrami sandwiches and knishes. Now, the name of the game is burgers, hormone and antibiotic free, cooked to medium unless otherwise requested. You can also get hot dogs plain and fancy, crinkle-cut fries, frozen custard, shakes and the Midwestern treat known as the concrete -- frozen custard blended with mix-ins, like fudge sauce, dark chocolate chunks and strawberry puree. Prices range from $3.25 for a simple hot dog to $4.99 for a plain burger to $9.49 for a double SmokeShack burger -- two cheeseburgers topped with bacon, chopped cherry pepper and mayonnaise-based Shack sauce.

At both Long Island locations, if you order the Malt Whitman concrete (made with vanilla custard, dark chocolate chunks, banana bread and malt powder), 5 percent of sales go to support the Cohen Children's Medical Center. In addition to soft drinks, you can get ShackMeister ale, brewed for Shake Shack by Brooklyn Brewery. There's also organic and biodynamic wine from Napa Valley's Stag Leap Winery.

Green in design, the new Shake Shack is built from recycled and sustainable materials. Walls are done in reclaimed barn siding, table tops crafted from reclaimed bowling lanes.

Given Shake Shack's history as a crowd magnet, one can't help but imagine that parking, already insufficient for this bustling shopping center, may soon reach critical mass. There's a Macy's Backstage set to open soon, joining such established spots as Iavarone Bros. Quality Foods, Iavarone Italian Kitchen & Pizzeria, Bagel Boss and the new Mikawa Japanese & Korean Modern restaurant, to name a few.

A third Long Island Shake Shack is projected for a 2016 opening in Melville.

Shake Shack is at 1570 Union Tpke., New Hyde Park, 516-634-2010
