Monday marks the launch of Slider Joe’s, a counter-serve eatery taking a new tack. “Our motto is ‘Right size, not supersize,’” said co-owner John Evangelista. That means instead of a hefty 1/3 pound burger, you're looking at a 2 ½ ounce patty on a slider-sized Martin potato roll.
And it’s not just the classic hamburger slider ($2.30) on the menu. The “Tuscan Joe” features a seasoned ground pork patty with tomatoes, peppers and onions ($3.80), and the Kansas City Joe is a pulled pork slider topped with haystack onions and BBQ sauce ($3.80). You can also get all-beef hot dogs, plain or fancy ($1.80 to $3.40) as well as shoestring fries, naked or topped with cheese and/or chili ($2.40-$3.40). Shakes, too ($3.80).
Evangalista, a contractor by trade, said he built the place himself. The wood on top of the counters came off the side of a barn in Arkansas. The little dining area has seating for 12.
Slider Joe’s is at 189 N. Long Beach Rd, Rockville Centre, 516-766-2000, sliderjoes.com.
