Smuggler Jack’s, hidden away in a residential Massapequa neighborhood, makes its home in an entirely new structure alongside Schmidt’s Canal, one of the South Shore’s many small waterways. Outdoors, you’ll find tables overlooking the canal and indoors, a handsome and tasteful dining space and bar. The recent weekday afternoon I stopped in to pick up a menu, the place seemed to be hopping.
It’s owned by Noel Cannon, whose other Massapequa restaurant, Paddy’s Loft, reflects his Irish background. Here, chef Tom Manetta, who formerly headed the kitchen at Hemingway’s in Wantagh, offers a seafood-centric American bill of fare. On the dinner menu, you’ll find a lobster roll ($14), blue-claw crabcakes ($12), pan-seared Montauk swordfish ($24) and a broiled or fried seafood platter ($23). There are also lunch, brunch and bar menus.
Smuggler Jack’s is at 157 Forest Ave., Massapequa, 516-798-6000.
