Joining the booming Patchogue dining scene is South Ocean Grill, which took over the former digs of Wicked Wings.

Executive chef and co-owner Hirbin Manzanares formerly cooked at Prime Grill, a kosher steak house in Manhattan, and at Houston’s in Garden City. Manzanares said the restaurant has a casual vibe with an “American grill” menu featuring steaks, seafood and burgers.

A popular item, he said, is a kale salad with roasted peanut dressing. Other dishes in his repertoire include such starters as Mexico City corn on the cob (at $9 the least expensive item), a portobello steak salad and such main-course choices as pan-seared jumbo scallops and rock shrimp, simply grilled salmon and a bone-in rib eye steak (at $32, the costliest item). A roster of burgers and sandwiches ($13-$15) includes a Roquefort burger, a grilled fish sandwich and a Cajun chicken club.

South Ocean Grill is at 567 S. Ocean Ave., Patchogue, 631-307-9999
