On this fogbound day, what could be more appropriate than a hearty bowl of pea soup? With a forecast of plummeting temperatures, you might want to eat some now and take home a quart or two for later.

Here are three places offering split-pea soup:

COOKROOM, 25 Middle Country Rd., Middle Island, 631-696-4260

At this restored vintage diner, owner Annie Mandler serves up a thick pea soup made with a long-simmered ham bone and laced with shreds of ham. (cup, $3.99; bowl, $5.99; to go pint, $7.98 and quart, $11.98).

LIDO KOSHER DELI, 641 Park Ave. Long Beach, 516-431-4411

Unlike some delis that offer split pea soup only on certain days, this popular Long Beach spot serves its hearty vegetarian brew daily ($2.75 bowl; $3.75 pint, $7.50 quart).

SOUVLAKI PALACE, 57 Commack Rd, Commack, 631-858-1482

“I have a big pot on the fire right now,” said  Peter Mantalvanos, chef co-owner of this little Greek restaurant. He adds that his slow-cooked soup is vegetarian and thickened with potatoes. ($3.50 cup, $4.75 bowl; $8 quart).

You  might want to also note that Thyme in Roslyn, Ben's Kosher Delicatessen in Woodbury, Carle Place and Greenvale and Sweet Hollow Diner in Melville all offer respectable versions — but not on Mondays.
