Sunset Off the Beach, a sibling of the more casual Sunset Restaurant at Islip Town beach, is up and running on Main Street in Islip. With a beachy vibe and a broad menu, the 30-seat spot offers casual breakfast and lunch service and a more tailored dinner, with tables dressed in linens.

Sunset Off the Beach is a collaboration between restaurateur Sal Cataldo and Christine Kim, who is running the kitchen. Cataldo’s seasonal beach spot opened two years ago with a terrific view and live music every night, and will reopen on May 1.

Cataldo, in his 60s, has spent his life in the restaurant business. After 20 years working in bars and restaurants, he segued into restaurant supply sales for a stint. When the beachfront real estate became available, he was pulled back into the action.

Beach regulars are just learning about Cataldo’s second location. And they’re stopping in for a breakfast ($3.50 to $12.95) that includes muffins and pancakes “loaded with blueberries,” he said.

For lunch, they’re likely to order soups such as corn crab, lobster bisque, chicken and vegetable, and beef barley. Dinner features dishes as casual as a steak sandwich to a lobster dinner for a grand appetite or a special occasion. Lunch and dinner prices range from $3.95 to $19.95. Both locations offer beer and wine.

Sunset Restaurant Off the Beach, at 454 Main St. (631-581-8200), is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
