Cirella's in Melville, which for many years stressed pastas and antipasti, pizzas and Parmigianas, continues its successful segue into sushi, too.
The Italian word for raw is "crudo." There's a separate menu for it. And the Italian restaurant has become one of the better sushi-sashimi stops along a stretch of Route 110 where the competition has intensified.
Try the sushi-and-sashimi combination platter with tuna, salmon and shrimp, among others. Fresh, deftly sliced, flavorful, it's on a par with the quality offered at many traditional Japanese restaurants on Long Island.
The "lady in red" roll, with spicy tuna, avocado and cucumber outside and salmon and avocado within is good. Likewise, the house's namesake roll, which brings in tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, cucumber, flying fish roe and spicy mayo.
And, if you're ready to mix cuisines, the appetizer of burrata with sliced tomato and grilled eggplant also is very good.
