Sushi-hibachi house replaces Japanese spot in Islandia
At the new Mugi Sushi Hibachi & Bar in Islandia, knives clang and vegetables go airborne at six big hibachi tables. Still, you can dine on the likes of rock shrimp tempura, chicken katsu and sashimi in a quieter room. The multipurpose Asian spot takes over the Islandia Shopping Center digs formerly home to Takara Japanese Restaurant.
On the menu: Tom yum goong, or Thai spicy seafood soup ($7), hamachi kama, or grilled yellowtail neck ($9.95), yellowtail jalapeño roll ($4.75), king tuna roll with seared tuna, spicy tuna and white tuna tempura ($12), chirashi ($19.95), tofu teriyaki ($13.95), sushi bento box ($18.95) and seafood pineapple fried rice ($12.95).
Mugi Sushi Hibachi & Bar is at 1708 Veterans Memorial Hwy., Islandia, 631-348-9470.
