Driven by curiosity, I landed in Northport at Tim’s Shipwreck Diner, recently the recipient of a surprise makeover for an upcoming Food Network show, “American Diner Revival.”

The place, once dark and closed-in, now has a crisp nautical-blue and white motif — and a lighter, brighter, fresher look. Thankfully, though, the place remains a vintage diner at heart.

The breakfast item I alighted upon was created for the makeover by chef Nicole Roarke of J.A. Heneghan’s Tavern in Point Lookout. Called the “Wreck-less” wrap ($14.95), it was, essentially, a whole-wheat tortilla enfolding grilled salmon, arugula, egg whites, grilled tomato, avocado and a little lemon aioli.

Grilled salmon and arugula before noon? It worked for me — and surprisingly well. It stands to reason: If we eat smoked salmon (lox) for breakfast, then why not grilled salmon? With the lemon aioli (which I requested the kitchen go light on) and the egg white, the wrap could be viewed as a relatively healthy take on eggs Benedict.

Or just enjoyed as something good to eat.
