Schout Bay Tavern will open its doors at 5:30 on Tuesday, Aug. 25, providing Manhasset's Plandome Road with an "upscale pub."

Partners Peter Keogh, Evan Psyllos and Matthew Sheerin are Manhasset natives who named their restaurant after the old Dutch name for Manhasset Bay.

Keogh, the managing partner, is a restaurant veteran whose Manhattan gigs have included Smith & Wollensky, Maloney & Porcelli and other constituents of the Fourth Wall Restaurants group. This is his first Long Island venture.

"We all live in town," Keogh said, "and this was the place we all wanted to eat at. There's really not much in Manhasset between the Poll Brothers and the diner. We wanted a place with good food, good cocktails, a good wine list, craft beer -- an adult meeting place."

To man the bar, the partners recruited John Reed from Uncle Jack's Steakhouse in Bayside, and to run the kitchen, executive chef Shawn Patrick, formerly of The Oak Room in Sea Cliff. His menu features on-trend dishes (Tuscan kale Caesar salad, burrata with tomato chutney and balsamic vinegar, blistered shishito peppers, lamb schnitzel with jalapeno-mint jam) and updated comfort classics (mac n cheese with pork belly and panko, blackened fish tacos, cedar-planked Dijon salmon). Appetizers are $7 to $12, mains are $14 to $19. The SBT burger, $14, has smoked Vermont Cheddar, griddled onions, bacon and "Tavern" sauce and is served on a brioche bun. Add an egg for $1.

The restaurant has 42 seats in the dining room, 14 more at the bar. It is open for dinner six days a week, lunch and brunch to come before too long. Closed Mondays.

Schout Bay Tavern is at 118 Plandome Rd., Manhasset, 516-627-2190, schoutbay.com.
