Beware of scam 'funeral home' emails

If you receive an email from a funeral home informing you that a friend has died, do not click on the link that promises "more detailed information" about a "farewell ceremony."

The Better Business Bureau has issued an alert that these emails are a scam. The subject line on these emails typically says "funeral notification." The email never identifies the "friend" by name. The BBB says clicking the link will install dangerous malware that could steal personal information from your computer.

Many of the scam emails purportedly come from the Eubank Funeral Home in Texas, a real business whose identity was stolen by hackers. Eubank has added an "urgent warning" on its website, telling consumers that the email is not from the funeral home.
