John Carpenter screens two films on LI
Filmmaker and film historian John Carpenter will screen two of his movies at the East Meadow Library Friday at 1 p.m.
On the bill is "Late to Lunch," directed by and starring Carpenter. The comedy short accurately re-creates the silent film era, so much so that it is featured in a DVD compilation (bit.ly/late tolunchfilm) with classic comedians, including Charlie Chaplin and Charley Chase.
Also being screened is "Smelling Like a Rose," a 2005 documentary that details Carpenter's long, painful recovery from a car accident that left him near death 15 years ago. Despite the accident, Carpenter, who walks with the aid of leg braces, remains optimistic and enthusiastic. "You have to use every negative and make it a personal positive," he says.
