Money magazine lists Best Places to Retire
As winter settles in, many people dream about warm, sunny places to spend their golden years. But if you're considering some of the choices on Money magazine's new list of Best Places to Retire, don't throw out your winter clothes.
Here are the top selections.
BELLA VISTA, ARKANSAS. This small town in the Ozark foothills was No. 1 because of low costs. The median price of a house is $102,000 and property taxes are typically less than $1,000 a year.
SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA. The magazine cites the city's "top-notch" health care as a lure. The winter weather, not so much.
MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA. The college town made the list because of its strong job market, low property taxes and continuing-education opportunities.
IOWA CITY, IOWA. Despite long, snowy winters, Iowa City is attractive to seniors because its low unemployment rate means retirees looking for part-time work are in demand.
