New, more secure veterans ID cards coming
Veterans enrolled in VA Health Care should be on the lookout for a new ID card.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is replacing the current Veteran Identification Card with a more secure version that no longer includes the Social Security number. The card more closely resembles a traditional ID card issued by major health insurers. The new VA card includes a small logo indicating the beneficiary's branch of service, along with other service-related information. The card can be used to obtain health services at VA medical facilities.
The VA says it plans to begin mailing out the new cards next month. All veterans enrolled in VA Health Care should receive a new card by July. The current Veteran Identification Card can be used until the new one arrives.
