Cabdriver reportedly drove woman accused in body parts case with heavy suitcases from Brooklyn to Brentwood

A livery cabdriver who said he drove the woman charged in the killing of a Brooklyn mother from that borough to Brentwood the day before Chinelle Browne's torso and legs were found has taken his story to Suffolk police, according to a spokesman for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.

At a news conference Friday, spokesman Fernando Mateo said the driver remembered taking accused killer Leah Cuevas from Brooklyn to Brentwood and helping her carry what he described as an extremely heavy suitcase.

According to News 12, Mateo said the driver knew 42-year-old Cuevas as a regular customer whom he had driven to work for about a year. When the driver, identified only as Ernesto, saw Cuevas on the news after her arrest, he told his bosses.

"She had to pick up a hand-truck in order to drag the suitcase on wheels, because it was very heavy. He helped her lift the bag and put it in the trunk," Mateo told reporters. The driver then took Cuevas to Brentwood, "where he then helped her unload her bag, put it on the hand-truck and he saw as she left it behind a home."

The driver then took Cuevas to a train station without the bag, Mateo said. News 12 reported that the driver is being questioned by police.

Cuevas, who lived in the same Bedford-Stuyvesant building as Browne, has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail She was arrested Wednesday, more than two weeks after police said she killed Browne in Brooklyn after a rent dispute.

Browne's torso and legs were found in Bay Shore on July 8. The next day one of her arms was found in Hempstead. On July 10, another arm was found in another Hempstead yard. Browne's head was discovered in Hempstead on July 17.
