One dead, another seriously injured in 2 Nassau crashes Sunday
Two separate car crashes in Nassau County on Sunday left one person dead and several others injured, police said.
The first crash happened at 1:40 a.m. in Hempstead, where Hicksville resident Oscar Argueta, 35, of 27 Nevada Street, was driving his 2017 Dodge Durango Northbound on Greenwich Street when he hit a 2017 Mercedes-Benz, which was traveling eastbound on Martin Street, police said.
A male passenger in the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene by a Northwell Health Emergency Medical Technician, according to police. The female driver of the Mercedes was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
Argueta was charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, where his case was adjourned to June 30. He received a Non-Monetary Release, online records show.
The second accident was at 1:11 p.m. in Westbury, where a 23-year-old-female driving a 2020 Nissan SUV, traveling westbound on Old Country Road, hit a 75-year-old-male on an electric scooter, who was heading northbound on Post Avenue. They were both transported to a hospital, police said. The female operator had minor injuries, while the 75-year-old-male suffered severe trauma to his head and chest and is in serious condition.
Police are investigating the crash.
