A man on an evening bike ride Tuesday was seriously injured when a hit-and-run driver crashed into him in Amityville, Suffolk police said.

James Agostino, 64, of Amityville, was riding a Huffy bicycle east on Merrick Road near Bayview Avenue when he was struck at about 8:45 p.m. by someone driving what the police said was described as a dark-colored sedan.

That motorist drove off, headed north on Bayview Avenue, police said.

Agostino was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital, police said.

Anyone with information on the crash should call 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
