A Brentwood man struck in the head last month with a metal object has died from his injuries, Suffolk County police said Saturday.

Carlos Cabrera, 44, was walking on Main Street near Third Avenue in Bay Shore just before 7 p.m. on Feb. 25, when he was attacked, police said, by Ricardo Siguenza, 32, of Bay Shore, who hit him in the head and then fled the scene.

First responders took Cabrera to a hospital with serious injuries.

Later that day, following an investigation, detectives arrested Siguenza and charged him with second-degree assault.

Following the attack, Cabrera succumbed to his injuries. Police could not say when he died.

The Suffolk County homicide squad is now investigating the case.

Additional charges are expected, but they haven't been finalized yet, a police spokeswoman said Saturday evening.
