Nassau County police arrested a New Hyde Park man and charged him with attempted murder after he allegedly assaulted his parents with a knife as they slept in their bed on Saturday, authorities said Sunday.

Police said Joshua Wilck, 24, entered a bedroom where his parents were sleeping and began attacking them with a knife and continued as the pair tried to exit their Cherrywood Drive home. The incident took place around 11:18 p.m., police said.

When police arrived on the scene, they said they found Wilck with his arms wrapped around the neck of one of his parents and they arrested him.

Police said the father, 60, and mother, 64, suffered severe lacerations and were taken to a hospital, where they were in critical but stable condition.

Wilck was also charged with two counts of first-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, aggravated criminal contempt, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
